Residents of about 120 homes, including a mobile home park, remain evacuated because of an 11-car train derailment in Scott, Master Troop Brooks David told The Daily Advertiser.
Meanwhile, there still is no estimate on how long it will take to get equipment to the scene to right the rail cars, he said. There still are no leaks.UPDATE 1:34 p.m.
The Lafayette Parish School System says that students who live on Pecan Grove Road will be dropped off at the Scott Events Center this afternoon.
If you live on Pecan Grove Road and you would like to pick up your child early from school, you may do so at any time this afternoon. If you don’t pick up your child from school you can pick him or her up at the Scott Events Center.
SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – A mobile home park and a daycare center have been evacuated as authorities work to remove hazardous material inside a train car that derailed.
News 10 has just received word that the evacuation area has expanded to a quarter-mile radius from the site of the train derailment, which happened near Pecan Grove Road and Walker Road.
Cameron Street has been reopened between Westgate Road and Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Alton Trahan of the Lafayette Fire Department told KLFY’s Renee Allen authorities are currently awaiting the arrival of a company from Houston that specializes in hazardous waste removal.
Trahan told KLFY earlier that the hazardous material onboard the train was phosphoric acid.
No injuries have been reported from this incident.
Residents living in and near the G & R Mobile Home Park have been evacuated.
The Little Blessings Childcare center has also been evacuated.
All of the evacuees have been taken to the Scott Event Center.
Officers from the Scott Police Department and Louisiana State Police are assisting the Lafayette Fire Department.
