LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Local law enforcement will be heading to Baton Rouge this weekend to pay their respects to the three officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty.

Matthew Gerald was laid to rest earlier today at Louisiana National Cemetery.

Brad Garafola’s funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Istrouma Baptist Church and Montrell Jackson’s funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Living Faith Christian Center.

Early this morning law enforcement around Acadiana headed to Baton Rouge for the first of the three funerals.

“We send those officers not only for the department to represent and show their department that we support them,” said Lafayette Police Department’s Public Information Officer Paul Mouton, “But to show the family and the children of those fallen officers that hey you have family across the nation and we’re here to support you.”

Although some officers will attend each service to pay their respects those who are unable to still plan to show their support by wearing black bands around their badge.

“By wearing this band we not only show the families of the fallen officers but also the agency and the public sees that we are there in spirit and there to support them,” said Mouton.

The band will be worn on officers badges until each fallen officer is laid to rest.

Euince Police Department has had officers in Baton Rouge all week to help law enforcement during this tough time.

“It’s a tragedy over there,” said Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot, “It takes a lot of man hours, man power, to get something like this to continue to protect the city and do everything that’s required during something like this so we need to help each other out. I know if we put the call out that we needed assistance in Eunice, I know that they would respond to that. So we’re just helping each other out and doing what needs to be done.”

According to Chief Fontenot his officers will be in Baton Rouge, helping their law enforcement until Monday.
