The Police Chief in Youngsville is home recovering after a motorcycle accident on Sunday.
Chief Rickey Boudreaux says he’ll have to have back surgery. “It’s going to require a minor surgery to fix. I will be back to work shortly.”
The chief says he and a few officers were headed for Church Point to help with the Mardi Gras festivities. “Any avid bike rider knows it’s not a matter of if but it’s a matter of when you’ll have an accident,” the chief said.
The chief says the accident happened on the I-10 ramp heading west. He accelerated in the curve. “To get up in front of them and kind of block the lane a little bit by turning on my lights; to kind of warn people that we’re merging on,” Boudreaux added.
Instead the unthinkable occurred. The chief says they hit a slick spot. Chief Boudreaux says it was his bike that fish tailed and then flipped over. “I jumped up and checked the bike; and started checking myself for any broken bones.”
Boudreax though he just cracked some ribs but that was far from the case. He says doctors told him he fractured his back.
