Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft plans to ask the city-parish council permission to apply for a grant aimed at diminishes domestic violence crimes.

Craft wants the council to approve an ordinance that allows him to file an application with the US Department of Justice Office on violence against woman. The funds would be used to train and equip an investigator to be assigned to domestic violence crimes in the Lafayette jurisdiction.

The council considers the proposal Tuesday and final adoption could take place in less than a month.
