LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Former New York Mayor Rudy Mayor and attorney for President Trump, Rudy Giuliani, pledged his full support on Monday for the congressional campaign of Josh Guillory.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump endorsed the incumbent, Representative Clay Higgins, on twitter for the November primary.
“Mayor Giuliani, talk about you going against President Trump’s endorsement of Clay Higgins, why is that?,” asked KLFY reporter Lester Duhe’.
“Haha I didn’t, he went against mine. I endorsed him first, and the President endorsed him (Higgins) 2 days later. The President just did it because he had the party and he indorsed the incumbent,” said Giuliani.
Giuliani pledged his full support at the Petroleum Club for Josh Guillory in the third congressional primary election in November.
President Trump endorsed Higgins on Twitter saying,”The Great State of Louisiana, we want Clay!”
“I don’t think he (President Trump) knows all the details of it. I’m not going to interfere with that, he’s President. The President’s a great man, a great President. Nobody defends him more than I do, doesn’t mean we see eye to eye, or sometimes we get different information,” said Giuliani.
He says that Guillory came to his attention through Jennifer LeBlanc, a Lafayette woman who previously worked on Higgin’s congressional campaign and Giuliani’s presidential campaign as a fundraiser.
Guillory went on to attack his opponent.
“If you’re a conservative, you don’t vote to increase our national debt not once, not twice, but 3 times. If you care about this district. if you go to Washington, you don’t go to Washington and increase flood insurance. If you care about this district, you live inside this district,” said Josh Guillory, a candidate for the congressional seat.
Higgins says he found out about the President’s endorsement last week, when he was invited to the Cabinet Room in the White House, with other conservative members of Congress..
“I work for you Louisiana. I serve America, and i’m honored to have been endorsed by President Trump,” said Representative Clay Higgins.
Numerous other candidates have also said they will run against Higgins this Fall.
The election for the third congressional district will take place on November 6.
