UPDATE: Lafayette Police say a 42 year old man is dead following a domestic disturbance shooting Sunday in Lafayette. 

It happened just after 9 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Clematis Court.

According to police, 42 year old Alexander Stokes attacked the shooter, identified as a 20 year old male, with a bladed weapon following a verbal altercation inside of the residence.

The shooter, fearing for his life, then opened fire with a handgun, police said. 

It was determined that the shooter and his mother lived at the residence with Stokes, who was the mother’s live-in boyfriend.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time, police said.

The death has been ruled a Justifiable Homicide.

ORIGINAL:  At approximately 9:00 am, Lafayette police responded to a residence in the 100 block of Clematis Court (near High Meadows Blvd) in reference to a shooting.

One black male was found to be deceased as a result of the shooting. A second black male has been taken into custody as the suspect in the shooting.

The circumstances of the shooting are currently under investigation.

The age and name of the victim have not yet been released. We will update you with more information as it becomes available.
