ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY)- UPDATE (10:00 P.M.): Early information in the investigation is leading the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office to believe the shooting on Interstate 10 Thursday evening may have been random.
Sheriff K.P. Gibson told News 10, “We don’t believe at this point and time there to be any disturbance that happened between the two vehicles (or) any type of traffic rage that happened there, so we’re trying to determine what was the factor of why this shooting occurred.”
At 5:55 P.M. Thursday a 911 call reported two to three gunshots on Interstate 10 mile marker 72 between Jennings and Crowley. Four people, including two juveniles, were in the vehicle struck by gunfire. According to Acadia Parish Sheriff KP Gibson, one woman was injured.
“At this time the person who was struck is in stable condition,” Gibson said. “Thank God for that, but the question is if this kind of behavior continues down the road, it may not be the same outcome, and that’s why we need to try to get to the bottom of it.”
The suspect(s)’s vehicle is described as a mid-sized sedan with tinted windows and a dark color. The victims did not get a good look at who was behind the wheel or the trigger and believe they were randomly targetted.
Gibson said he can’t blame them for the small amount of information given the circumstances. “I can only imagine what they were going through,” he said.
As authorities are looking to map both vehicles’ routes to the interstate and if any video evidence exists, they are hopeful someone was on the road might have the answers they seek.
“If you were traveling in that area yesterday afternoon, saw this, think you saw something that looked familiar, just call us,” Gibson encouraged. “Report it. That might be the information that could link us to this case and help us bring this person or persons to justice.”
Sheriff Gibson does not believe this is linked to the deadly I-10 shooting in October. There was an arrest in that incident. If you have information to solve this crime, you can call the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-788-8772 or the Crimestoppers line at 337-789-TIPS to remain anonymous.
UPDATE (2:00 P.M.): Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson has confirmed that four people, including two juveniles, were inside the vehicle that was struck by gunfire on Interstate 10 Thursday evening.
A woman was hurt, but her injuries are considered non-life-threatening, Gibson said.
The shooting remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information regarding this crime, they are urged to call APSO at 788-8772 or Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish at 789-TIPS (8477).
