UPDATE: 5:20 p.m. CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) – Leon Lamarcus Horhn, 32, of Houston, Texas has been identified as the victim in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning on I-10 in Acadia Parish.

According to Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, the crash happened when a vehicle traveling eastbound hit their breaks and skidded into the guardrail.

Broussard said Horhn, who was operating an 18-wheeler tried to avoid the vehicle and overturned ending up in the westbound land of traffic, where a second truck stuck the cab of his 18-wheeler.

Police said Horhn died on impact.

The crash happened at mile marker 80.

It took several hours to clean up after the crash and motorists had to take a detour while the lanes were closed.

The lanes opened up by mid-afternoon.

“It’s a pain to be in line this long, but I would rather be in line than to have been involved in that,” said Pam Manuel, of Lafayette. “Prayers go out the family and the person who lost their life.”

Traffic backed up in the westbound lanes for miles. At one point, it backed up past Duson. Many drivers had to sit and wait for hours, until traffic could get past the accident scene, moving at a snail’s pace.

“We’ve been sitting here for about three hours. It’s just been bumper to bumper,” said Armando Loyola, of Mississippi.

“We took side roads, cut up, and come back in about two miles back,” said Bubba Beasley, of Houston. “We’re still in traffic for an hour and a half. Someone loses their life, we’re not in a hurry.”

Crowley Police are investigating the accident.

UPDATE, 3:51 p.m.: Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reports that I-10 is now open in both directions.

ORIGINAL POST: CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) — Crowley Police are investigating a  crash involving an 18-wheeler and four vehicles in the westbound lanes along I-10 at mile marker 80, according to Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard.  

Broussard said, one person died and two people were taken to area hospitals. Currently, the westbound lanes are closed and are expected to open back up around noon.

Broussard said the name of the victim is not being released until next of kin are notified.

It is being reported that drivers are being directed off of I-10 in Estherwood and allowed back on the interstate in Crowley.
