RAYNE, La. (KLFY) — UPDATE, 4:30 p.m., Oct. 28: A suspect wanted on multiple charges is still at large after multiple Acadiana law enforcement agencies tried to apprehend him following a high-speed chase across parishes.
According to Lt. Jonathan Touchet of the Abbeville Police Department, on October 28, 2021, at approximately 1:15 p.m. officers with the Abbeville Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in which the driver (Jamie Davis of Abbeville) was known to have felony warrants related to a recent shooting within the city of Abbeville.
The vehicle, once officers initiated their emergency overhead lights, failed to stop. The vehicle then gained speed and attempted to elude officers. While officers had their emergency lights and sirens on, the vehicle continued to flee.
The vehicle swerved into the “push bumpers” of one of the marked police units, causing damage to the unit as well as the rear bumper of the vehicle Mr. Davis was driving.
Officers continued to chase the vehicle throughout the city. They then pursued the vehicle outside of the city limits.
The vehicle traveled to LA Hwy. 339, where it headed north. Officers pursued the vehicle through the outskirts of Youngsville, Milton and Maurice.
Officers continued to pursue the vehicle when it traveled to LA Hwy. 699, then north to Duson, then to Rayne.
At various points during the pursuit, Mr. Davis drove in excess of 100 mph on residential roadways and attempted to ram police vehicles off of the road.
The vehicle went off of the roadway in Rayne near I-10, where it drove on the levee. The vehicle stopped in a field near the levee and the driver fled on foot, crossing I-10.
K9 officers with the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office and Rayne Police Department started a track to attempt to find Davis.
Officers were unable to locate Mr. Davis at this time
Mr. Davis is wanted on the following charges:
- Arrest Warrant for Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery Involving Domestic Abuse with Child Endangerment
- Arrest Warrant for Obstruction of Justice
- Arrest Warrant for Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
- Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies
- Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone
Additional charges stemming from this pursuit are also pending.
Davis should be considered armed and dangerous.
If anyone locates Davis, the Abbeville Police Department is asking that you contact your local law enforcement and do not attempt to confront Davis.

ORIGINAL POST, 2: 48 p.m., Oct. 28, 2021: Multiple law enforcement agencies are attempting to apprehend a suspect at large near I-10 in Rayne. The suspect is on the run from the police and wanted for a recent shooting in Abbeville and several felony warrants.
Law enforcement identified the suspect as Jamie Davis of Abbeville.
Law enforcement sources say that a murder suspect was chased by multiple agencies from Abbeville to Lafayette to Duson.
Police believe Davis is in the woods near I-10 in Rayne and are stationed there, attempting to apprehend him. Officials ask locals to avoid the area if possible, but they don’t expect traffic delays.
