LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Ever since three law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge were gunned down, many groups have held fundraisers and special events for police officers and their families.
Another one will be held this Saturday in Lafayette. Fatima Boy Scout Troop 446 will hold a car wash this Saturday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. It will be at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Johnston Street in Lafayette.
The Boy Scouts will wash cars to raise money for the families of the officers killed on July 17. Baton Rouge police officers Matthew Gerald and Montrell Jackson and East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy Brad Garafola were killed in the ambush.
Fatima Troop 446 takes on a worthy cause every year. This year they wanted to help out the officers’ families. The troop wants to help them cover expenses related to the loss of their loved ones.
Organizers say they’re true heroes who died protecting and serving their community. They expect between 15 and 20 Boy Scouts to take part in the car wash. Again, it’s this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church. The troop’s goal is to raise $5,000.
