LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) Mel’s Diner on Johnston Street announces a reopening date for this year.

“It’s great you know, especially early in the morning for breakfast,” one customer stated.

It’s been a bumpy road for Mel’s Diner along Johnston Street.

First the pandemic, then a fire.

“Well that’s good.  I’m glad to hear it’s coming back,” another customer added.

The Chevron gas and service station, next door to the diner, has been in the same spot since the 1950’s.

“We get a lot of customers from there too.  That’s what I like,” one Chevron worker stated.

“I understand some of the customers get bored over here.  It will be nice for them to have something to eat.”

“Especially when your children, grand-children and great-grand children have eaten there.  In fact, I’m glad to see everything open up.  It’s time.”

According the restaurant manager, reopening is scheduled for August 2021.
