LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — UPDATE, Sept. 29, 10:20 a.m.: The victim of Tuesday morning’s fatal bike crash was identified by Lafayette Police as 22-year-old Ty Clark of Duson.

According to LPD, at approximately 5:46 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, a Dodge Challenger was traveling north on the Evangeline Thruway when it struck a bicycle that crossed in front of it. It is unknown why the bicyclist crossed into traffic.

Alcohol was determined to not be a factor for the driver of the vehicle.

Clark was pronounced dead on the scene.

ORIGINAL, Sept. 28, 8:44 a.m.: A bicyclist was pronounced dead after being struck by a vehicle in the 2100 block of NE Evangeline Throughway.

Sr. Cpl. Bridgette Dugas with the Lafayette Police Department confirmed that the Thruway is now open to traffic.
