UPDATE, 4/8/21: Fire investigators had determined the cause to be electrical in nature. They say it started from an exterior structure that was connected to the residence.

UPDATE, 4/7/21, 8:03 a.m.: Tuesday night’s house explosion in the 100 block of Lloyd St. in Scott spread to a neighboring home, as well, according to Scott Fire Chief Chad P. Sonnier.

As crews responded to the fire, high winds had already begun to spread the blaze to a neighboring home. Firefighters had to fight both fires simultaneously. The initial home was a total loss, according to Sonnier, while the neighboring home received moderate damages.

The occupant of the initial home was able to escape without injury. A cat did perish in the blaze. In the neighboring home, firefighters had to take a rock to bash their way into the home to remove an occupant who is hearing impaired.

The fire is being ruled an accident, according to Sonnier, though the exact cause is still under investigation. Firefighters from the Duson, Judice and Lafayette Fire Departments responded to assist.

ORIGINAL POST: SCOTT, La. (KLFY) — Firefighters were on the scene of a house explosion late Tuesday in Lafayette Parish. It happened around 7:30 p.m. at a home on Lloyd Street in Scott.

Fire officials tell News 10 that another house nearby caught fire as well, however, that home received minor damages.

There were no injuries reported.
