UPDATE 4:30 p.m., April 28: An additional youth was apprehended in Jefferson Parish, according to the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice. The remaining escapee is a 17-year old from the New Orleans area.

UPDATE, 12:35 p.m., April 28: Officials have confirmed to News 10 that the four escaped juvenile inmates that led to the lockdown of two Lafayette schools this morning were, in fact, part of a group of six escapees from the Bridge City Center for Youth. They made their way to Acadiana after stealing a vehicle from the detention center as part of their escape.

AS WGNO reported this morning, six escapees left the juvenile detention center shortly after midnight this morning. During the incident, one staff member was injured. He was treated at a local hospital for injuries and released.

The remaining two escapees are a 17-year old from the New Orleans area and a 17-year old from Jefferson Parish. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these two youth should contact local law enforcement or the command center at (225) 328-0334 or (225) 328-8402.

UPDATE, 9:29 a.m., April 28: Police confirm all four juveniles have been recaptured. Three were captured shortly after their escape, but the fourth stole a vehicle from a local construction site and led police on a high-speed chase through Lafayette and into Vermilion Parish. The fourth inmate was captured in Kaplan.

ORIGINAL POST: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office tells News 10 that deputies are searching for four escaped juvenile detention center inmates, and as a precaution, they have locked down Lafayette High and S.J. Montgomery Elementary.

The juveniles escaped a transport van from New Orleans that was passing through Lafayette. The escape happened in the 1800 block of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy.
