UPDATE, 7/26: Carencro Police have identified the victim in a drive-by shooting Saturday at the Walgreens on West Gloria Switch Road.

Police Chief David Anderson said 21-year-old Vontre Broussard of Lafayette was shot as he exited a vehicle to go into Walgreens.

He was transported to a local hospital where he died, Anderson said.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Kendall Leopaul of Lafayette.

Leopaul is accused of opening fire on the victim, firing multiple rounds at Broussard and into the vehicle that he was in.

ORIGINAL POST: CARENCRO, La. (KLFY) Carencro Police say a man was shot in broad daylight in the Walgreens parking lot on W. Gloria Switch Road.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday Chief David Anderson said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and died, Anderson said.

Saturday’s shooting continues a violent past 24-hours in Acadiana.

Early Saturday in Lafayette, police found a man inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds who later died at a local hospital.

Friday night, 57-year-old Kennedy Mouton of Lafayette was found stabbed to death on St. Antoine.
