UPDATE, 6/12: LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) — Lafayette Police said one person is in critical condition after several vehicles began exchanging gunfire near the intersection of W. University Ave. and St. John St. Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Wayne Griffin explained that three vehicles entered the intersection. Two suspect vehicles, described as a silver Toyota Camry and dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, were following the victim’s silver Dodge Charger. A passenger in the Camry began shooting into the driver’s side of the Charger. The Silverado is also believed to be involved in the incident.
The two suspect vehicles fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing, according to Griffin.
ORIGINAL: Lafayette Police are on the scene of a shooting in downtown Lafayette.
Police said that two cars exchanged gunshots in the University Ave. and St. John St. area at around 5:15 p.m.
One person was injured and transported to a hospital and is in unknown condition.
