LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Sgt. Wayne Griffin’s reputation within the Lafayette community over the years has grown.

In his nearly 20 years, Griffin has served as SWAT commander, public information officer and recently interim police chief when the former chief was fired.

It was the public information officer position that put him in the spotlight.

On October 7, that spotlight followed him as Mayor President Josh Guillory relieved Griffin of his duties as interim police chief as Griffin was placed on administrative leave pending a sexual harassment allegation investigation.

In that statement, M/P Josh Guillory reinforced the administration’s zero tolerance for sexual harassment but its respect for due process.

On Jan 6, 2022 Sgt. Griffin is reinstated.

He’s not serving as interim nor PIO but reinstated as sergent on administrative leave.

Then, over the weekend, reports come out that Sgt. Griffin is out a job.

I reached out to LCG who has provided updates in the past regarding Griffins position with the police department. Today, they referred me to Griffin’s attorney who we also reached out too.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Former Lafayette Interim Police Chief Wayne Griffin was dismissed from the Lafayette Police Department as of last week, according to multiple sources.

The news comes less than three weeks after the Lafayette Consolidated Government announced that Griffin would be reinstated following his suspension in October, 2021 amid an on-going investigation surrounding sexual harassment allegations.

Griffin was put on paid leave with full salary and benefits pending the results of the internal investigation.

Maj. Monte Potier has served as acting police chief since that time.

A national search is underway for a permanent chief, according to LCG.

On October 7, Griffin was appointed interim police chief of Lafayette after former Police Chief Thomas Glover, Sr., was fired by Mayor-President Josh Guillory.

When reached about the matter late Sunday, Griffin referred our questions to his attorney, Allyson Prejean.

Our calls to her office were unsuccessful.

So far, LCG has yet to comment on the report and have yet to shed any light on why Griffin was eventually fired.
