UPDATE: Lafayette Police arrest suspect in May 19 fatal Simcoe St. shooting

UPDATE, 6/2/20: Lafayette Police made an arrest this morning in the May 19 shooting death of Robert Hebert.

Sr. Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said officers arrested Nakeea Keith Senegal, 20, on a charge of second-degree murder in the 1800 block of Eraste Landry Rd. Senegal is accused of also injuring a second person in the shooting in the 1800 block of E. Simcoe May 19.


Senegal surrendered peacefully, according to Dugas.

UPDATE, 5/20/21: Lafayette Police have identified the victim in Wednesday night’s fatal shooting on Simcoe St.

Robert Hebert, 43, of Lafayette was found suffering from a gunshot wound by Lafayette Police in the 1800 block of E. Simcoe St., according to Sr. Cpl. Bridgette Dugas. Hebert was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A second victim, a bystander, was also shot, suffering an injury that was not life-threatening. That victim was taken to the hospital before police arrived on the shooting scene, according to Dugas.

No suspect has been identified at this time. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Lafayette Police or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS. The investigation remains on-going.  

ORIGINAL POST: LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) — Lafayette Police responded to a shooting that happened on Simcoe St. this evening.

Lafayette Police Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said the shooting happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of E. Simcoe St. One person is dead and another is injured.
