LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KLFY) – Authorities say one person is dead and two others are injured after a two-vehicle crash this afternoon in Lafayette Parish.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Fieldspan Road and Landry Road.
State Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Crowley resident Queyaishious Harmon. Harmon’s passenger 25-year-old Kira Harmon is still in critical condition.
According to State Police, Queyaishious Harmon was driving a 1999 Honda Civic and failed to stop for a stop sign onto Fieldspan Road. Police then said a black Ford Expedition crashed into the Honda, smashing it into this tree.
Master Trooper Brooks David said the SUV crashed into the Honda’s drivers side door. He said the Queyaishious and Kira Harmon were not wearing seat belts.
Police have identified the driver of the Ford Expedition as 66-year-old Crowley resident Julie Byers. According to State Police, she was wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries.
KLFY spoke with the owner of the home where this crash happened.The home owner said he wasn’t there at the time of the crash, however, accidents happen at this intersection often.
Another neighbor said he has remembered three fatal crashes at that intersection since he lived there.
“We just ask people to pay attention. Whatever it was whether it was a cell phone, another passenger, or whatever it might be, just pay attention to the roadway. Maybe look both ways maybe twice before you pull out onto the intersection,” David said.
State Police are speaking with the victim’s family members as well as the one witness of the fatal accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
