JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH, La. (KLFY) – Louisiana State Police say one person died after crashing into the back of an 18-wheeler last night on I-10.

State Troopers identified the victim as 52-year-old Michael Luth.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on I-10 East between Welsh and Roanoke.

Sgt. James Anderson said a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg SUV was traveling in the right lane when it crashed into the back of the 18-wheeler and became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead the scene.

Anderson said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash.

Troopers had to close I-10 East at the scene of the crash until about 6 a.m. this morning.

Toxicology samples were obtained from the driver of the SUV and will be submitted for analysis.

State Police are still investigating the crash.
