Family, Friends and civil rights activist who demand justice for Victor White III had a press conference today in Iberia Parish.

As family members and supporters of Victor White III arrived at the Iberia Parish Jail where they planned to protest, they were greeted by barricades, along with the Iberia Parish sheriffs deputies.

“It’s just a man power issue as far as allowing everyone to come onto the property. We didn’t know what to expect as far as how many protesters were going to show up so, we figured this was the safest and easiest way to have it sectioned off and to have their rally” said Major Ryan Turner, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After being turned away from the property, protesters gathered on the shoulder of the roadway across from the jail. No matter the platform, they want their message heard loud and clear.

“My son did not commit suicide, but they want us to believe that” said Victor White Sr.  March 3rd marks the anniversary of Victor White’s death and even now, one year later, controversy is still at the center. White died in the back of an Iberia sheriff deputy’s vehicle.

White Sr. says, “Initially they said he shot himself in the back. 5 1/2 months later we get an autopsy report saying himself in the chest and then on top of that, still saying he was handcuffed behind his back.”

Reverend Victor White Sr. says, details are still very vague about what happened that night. However, the Iberia Parish Coroners Office ruled white’s death a suicide.

White’s father says he wants the cause of death changed from suicide, to homicide.

“As we continue to struggle, I still want to make it known to them regardless of what they do or how they do it, we still not going to stop until we get justice for my son, Victor White III.”
