Port Barre police are investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that seriously injured a 10-year-old autistic boy, Saturday afternoon.
According to Port Barre Police Chief Deon Boudreaux, the crash happened just after 2 p.m. in the 900 block of Saizon Road.
Boudreaux said the child was riding his bicycle in a private driveway before steering it into the roadway where he was struck by a passing motorist.
According to Boudreaux, the driver did not see the child in time to swerve or stop the vehicle.
The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital, but then had to be airlifted to a Lafayette hospital due to the extent of his injuries, Boudreaux said.
“At last check, his condition was listed as critical.” Boudreaux said.
