10th annual back to school giveaway held at MLK Center

LAFAYETTE, LA. (KLFY) For 10 years community members have gathered at the Martin Luther King Center in Lafayette to receive free school supplies right before the new academic year begins.

Former City Parish Councilmember Brandon Shelvin has given away the free school supplies every year to families who may not be able to afford them.

Families who submitted applications could choose between a new backpack or a new school uniform. They also received other school supplies such as pencils and notebooks.
