LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— A false fire complaint leads to two suspects attempting to flee only to be stopped later found with meth, authorities said.

According to a news release, on Nov. 3, at approximately 10:40 p.m. a 911 call was made by Harold Stansbury in reference to a home structure fire.

St. Landry Fire District 2 Fire Department arrived on the scene but said there was no fire to be found.

Chief Deon Boudreaux with the Port Barre Police said that the owner of the residence Harold Stanbury and his visitor, Carlos Colon, told fireman that they had to leave the residence before police got there and that they tried to get the firetruck to move out of the way.

Authorities said Stansbury appeared to be hallucinating and told firemen that a dead body was in his vehicle.

Colon then jumped in the driver seat of Stansbury White Ford F-150 with Stansberry in the passenger seat, driving off frantically into a ditch, according to firefighters.

Firemen contacted the Port Barre Police Department and notified them of the suspicious activity.

Police officers said the vehicle was located several blocks down the road and conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop, officers said they interviewed the subjects who seemed to be extremely paranoid and nervous.

A news release stated during a search of the vehicle, officers found a small plastic bag containing methamphetamine (Crystal meth) and suboxone pills.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of schedule II and schedule III narcotics.

Standbury and Colon both were brought to the Porte Barre Jail. There bond was set at $8,000 each.

Authorities said that criminal mischief charges are pending on Harold Stansbury, for calling in the fake fire complaint.
