UPDATE: Waynesha Briggs turned herself into the Abbeville Police Department this afternoon.
She will be charged with obstruction of justice.
ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Abbeville Police responded to a shooting late Tuesday evening where one suspect was hospitalized and another is still at large.
Officers arrived on scene just before 10:00 p.m. after a reported shooting at Paw Paw’s Liquor Store in the 400 block of M.L.K. Drive.
Steven Davenport, 20, of Abbeville, was found with a gunshot wound to the hip.
Davenport was treated and transported to Abbeville General Hospital.
Witnesses say Davenport caused the incident when he reportedly pulled a gun on the store owner and shot at him.
The owner then pulled his own gun and shot back, hitting Davenport in the hip.
Davenport dropped his gun, which was picked up by a black female who fled the scene, according to witness accounts.
Lieutenant David Hardy says that woman is identified as Waynesha Briggs, 20, of Abbeville.
Officers recovered a firearm underneath Brigg’s residence some time later.
One witness says the incident stems from a previous fight between two girls that led Davenport to retaliate against the store owner’s son.
Upon his release from the hospital, Davenport will be booked on an Attempted Second Degree Murder charge.
Meanwhile, Briggs is still wanted for Obstruction of Justice.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Abbeville Police at (337) 893-2511.
