St. Landry Parish, La. (KLFY) – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to two separate fatality crashes in St. Landry Parish Saturday morning.
The crashes claimed the lives of 34 year-old Josie Robertson of Jeanerette, 24 year-old Tyler Compton of Carencro, and a pedestrian, 22 year-old Aaron Guidry of Carencro.
The first fatal crash occurred shortly after 2:00 AM on Interstate 49 just south of Opelousas.
The initial crash investigation led Troopers to determine Josie Robertson was driving a Nissan Versa northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 49.
Police say Robertson struck a southbound Honda Accord head on in the southbound lanes of Interstate 49.
The Honda was being driven by 24 year-old Tyler Compton of Carencro. Neither Robertson nor Compton were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Robertson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.
Compton suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators did obtain blood samples as part of the on-going fatality investigation. The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Labe for analysis.
The second crash occurred shortly before 5:30 AM on LA 93 at Roy Road in St. Landry Parish.
The investigation revealed that Aaron Guidry was walking south in a curve on LA 93 in the middle of the southbound lane. A Ford Ranger, driven by 28 year old Brandon Allemond of Arnaudville, was traveling southbound on LA 93.
Police say Allemond was navigating through the curve, approaching Guidry who was walking in a dark area and wearing black shorts and a light color top.
Allemond was unable to stop in time to avoid striking Guidry. Guidry was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office. Allemond was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Allemond voluntarily submitted to a breath test and his results indicated he was not impaired. Standard toxicology test were taken from the pedestrian and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
