Three children are now being treated for minor injuries after a school bus crash on U.S. 90 in Iberia Parish, according to local authorities.
Major Ryan Turner says it happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hubertville Road and U.S. Highway 90 near Jeanerette.
The bus driver allegedly pulled out in front of a pick up truck on as the bus was trying to cross U.S. 90. Superintendent of Iberia Parish schools, Dale Henderson, says only three children on were on the bus at the time of the crash.
They were taken to a local hospital be treated for minor injuries as a precaution. Two of the children are students at Jeanerette Elementary School and one is a student at Jeanerette High School, according to Henderson.
Authorities believe the driver of the pickup truck may have suffered minor injuries, as well. The bus driver was not injured but Major Turner says he was cited for failing to yield.
When asked about the bus driver facing disciplinary actions, the superintendent said the school board would address those issues tomorrow.
