OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – A woman was found dead in her Opelousas home after an early morning fire, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

Firefighters from St. Landry Fire District #3 responded to the fire in the 100 block of Jeanette Drive around 12:30 a.m.

The body of Susan Darby, 60, was found on the kitchen floor as crews extinguished the flames.

Her body had no “obvious signs of pre-fire trauma,” according to the Fire Marshal.

Officials say the St. Landry Parish Coroner will be performed an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Fire investigators have not determined the exact cause of the fire but say it started in the Darby’s bedroom.

The case remains under investigation.
