Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a 65-year-old man in Jeanerette Friday night.

The victim, Elton Dejean, was hit on MLK at its intersection with Baker Street around 10:20 p.m. Friday.

City Marshal Fernest Martin said Dejean was walking when he was struck by the vehicle he described as an older model, possibly 1999-2000 SUV, light in color. 

Martin said his office has obtained surveillance video that they have now turned over to State Police who will take over the investigation.
