Hattie Thompson has a unique spirit about her.

At 101 years of age, she’s active in mind, body, and soul.

She attends mass and prays the rosary every day.

Thompson also enjoys playing bingo and taking part in social activities.

“I like the game.  I like to play and I like to be with the people,” she says.

Thompson says her husband was in the farming business in Ville Platte; they never had children but was open to adopting.

“So we started talking about adoption.  My husband took sick and he died.  So that was it,” Thompson explains.

Thompson is one of two children.

She says her brother who was younger has since passed away as well.

She keeps a piece of Ville Platte with her both in her heart and on her shelves.

In her quiet moments, Thompson enjoys crocheting.

Thompson has touched a lot of lives.

Of course through crocheting many things  — probably for everyone

The other side to her is that she spent many years giving communion to the sick.

“I worked in the hospital.  I read French and I’m an ordained eucharistic minister.  I helped the priest all of my life,” Thompson says.

And the ministry has helped her to be at peace — fulfilled — and complete in the life she led.
