On February 20, 2019, at approximately 5 p.m. a patrol officer with the Opelousas Police Department stopped a vehicle near the intersection of W. Grolee Street and Bullard Street in reference to suspected illegal window tint.

Upon further investigation the officer located a stolen 40. Cal Smith & Wesson pistol that was reported  to stolen to the Houston Police Department. Approximately 20 grams of marijuana and other related paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle Mr. Brandon Elair was afterwards booked at the St. Landry for the following:

Brandon Elair, 19, of Opelousas:

  1. Illegal window tint
  2. Possession with intent to distribute schedule I narcotics (marijuana)
  3. Illegal Possession of a stolen firearm
  4. Illegal Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
  5. Illegal Possession of drug paraphernalia

Investigators have not yet determined as to how Elair came to be in possession of the stolen firearm from Houston, but that will be investigated further, authorities said. 

Elair’s possession related paraphernalia of  indicated that he may have been involved in a distribution operation.
