ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with an early morning shooting that left one person dead near Abbeville.
Deputies responded to a report of gunshots fired on Pine Street around 2:22 a.m. and found the body of Jeremiah Carltrell Walker, 22, of Maurice, in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.
A 17-year-old female was also shot in the upper arm. Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said her injuries are not life-threatening.
The suspect, Davian Layne Bessard, 21, of Abbeville, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
His bond has been set at $500,000.
Couvillon said detectives are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
