City leaders in Abbeville are celebrating a first of its kind inauguration.

Seven Abbeville city officials were sworn in today.

Family members, guests, and first responders gathered in Magdalen Square for a proud moment in Abbeville history.

Brady Broussard Jr., Abbeville City Council Member of District C, says, “This is a great day for the city of Abbeville. This is the day that has been coming for a long time. For the first time, we have put two ladies on the council which is good for our city. They are energetic, they are going to do some great things and working together, we’re going to move our city forward.”

For the first time, two women will serve on the council together.

Roslyn White and Terry Broussard say they are excited to be serving the city of Abbeville.

Terry Broussard, Abbeville City Council Member of District D, says, “I’m ready to get to work for District D. I had a good time.. I’m just I had a good time.. I’m excited.. I’m excited for the city of Abbeville.”

Roslyn White, Abbeville City Council Member of District A, says, “Thank you to all the citizens of Abbeville who came out to support us, show your support. You were heard and you were felt and we are ready to work for you. Now that the formalities are over it’s time to get to work.”

Councilman Broussard says there are many plans for the upcoming term.

“Finishing a fire station in District A. We have an airport terminal project on the east side of the city. We have a bunch of good things happening now with a big big big overhaul of our sewer plant,” Councilman Broussard explains.

The public’s support is important in making those future plans happen.

“This can’t happen without the public support we have here. This can’t happen without good people in office. This is good.. it’s even better having all of our citizens come out today,” says Councilman Broussard.

Councilman Broussard adds bringing in the new administration is a positive thing for the city of Abbeville and is looking forward to the next four years.
