ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Residents in Abbeville are picking up the pieces after flood waters swept through their homes leaving them no choice but to start over.
The Laporte family has lived on the Vermilion River for about 20 years.
Friends and family sat and watched as their homes filled with water
Kimble Sagrera lives next door to the Lepore’s. He’s said he has never seen water this high.
“I’ve never seen it anywhere close to this. Whenever we saw the water rising that was the talk have you ever seen it this high, and they were like this is as high as it’s ever been and it just kept on coming.”
Close to a foot of water sat in their home for nearly three days. Monday, the Lepore’s were left with a trail of damage.
“Troy’s house had maybe a foot of water in it, so they are gutting the house taking out all the furniture, all the floors. They are going to have to go in and cut out and do some construction work to dry out the walls,” said Segura.
Cobb LeBoeuf said it’s heartbreaking to see friends lose something they’ve spent their entire lives building.
“It looks like there’s no tomorrow. So I think that’s where most everybody is at, at least here in Abbeville, the people that are flooded and going to be starting over.”
The Lepore family will spend the next couple of weeks remodeling the house that has been their home for 20 years.
