The community showed their support through prayer and song at the Lafayette Strong: Unite. Honor. Heal. event held at the Blackham Coliseum.
With hands raised and hearts opened, the community honored those involved in the Grand Theatre shooting. The Lafayette Consolidated Government put the event together in just two days. They reached out to many local musicians and church choirs. Executive Director of the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Dr. Gerd Wuestemann says he was happy to help with the event. “Music in this community is the biggest connector and the most healing thing that we can go through, so when the city called Monday morning and said we are going to pull this event together. I said absolutely musicians are on standby. We’re going to make this thing work.”
Wuestemann says he hopes the event helps heal our community after this tragedy. “I think it’s just going to be an extraordinary out pour of music and the power of music bringing this entire community together.”
