Travontay Markell Guillory, 2,0 Eunice, La. 

Charges: Illegal Discharge of a Firearm-Felony

(St. Landry Parish Sheriff) -On February 26, 2019, deputies were called to a shots fired complaint that occurred at 204 Chataignier Street in Eunice. When deputies arrived they were told that Travontay Guillory fired a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun at least 13 times in the air during a verbal confrontation between his mother and another person. The disagreement was in reference to the sale of puppies.

Guillory stated he was told that the person arguing with his mother was in possession of a gun in his vehicle. Guillory then stated he witnessed what he thought the person reaching for something between his legs while backing his vehicle up to turn around and leave. Guillory stated he then began shooting his firearm into the air approximately 13 times in an attempt to scare off the person and to protect his family. Guillory was arrested and transported to the parish jail for processing.

Sheriff Guidroz stated, “A person has the right to protect his life or another person’s life when in imminent danger to losing his life or receiving great bodily harm. No person is allowed to blindly shoot into the air and put innocent people’s lives in danger.”
