OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – The Opelousas Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning leaving three people injured.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:20 a.m. at a parking lot in the 1600 block of Creswell Lane between Walmart and Waffle House.
“When officers arrived we learned that shots were being fired from three different vehicles,” said Opelousas Police Chief, Donald Thompson.
Chief Thompson tells News 10 that three victims were struck and taken to a local hospital, where they are in stable condition.
We’re told at least 14 shots were fired and the motive behind the shooting is still unclear.
“No one was able to tell us that they saw a brawl or fight of any sort,” said Chief Thompson.
Police are also unsure of how many suspects were involved as they continue to piece this puzzle together, but Chief Thompson says he does know the victims are not from the area.
“The victims that were shot are from the Alexandria area,” said Chief Thompson.
Chief Thompson says they plan to pull surveillance footage from the Waffle House to help in this case.
The shooting remains under investigation.
