The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is in line for a major overhaul, but at least one Atlanta area sportswriter still isn’t impressed with the $450 million plan.
Jeff Schultz, who covers the Atlanta beat for The Athletic, in a tweet called the dome a dump that $450 million
I love the city, the food and the people. But there’s 2 things I know about New Orleans: 1) The stadium is a dump; 2) $450 million won’t fix that. https://t.co/LuIiRxECw8— Jeff Schultz (@JeffSchultzATL) May 2, 2019
couldn’t fix.
Whatever specific complaints he has about the Dome, someone there must be doing something right because a league-wide evaluation of the NFL fan experience in 2018 rated the Superdome Number 1 in NFL game day satisfaction
Maybe Schultz’ opinion is colored by experiencing the Superdome only when the Falcons are in town, pointed out WWL Saints sideline reporter Steve Geller: “Just because your team looks like trash playing in the Superdome, that doesn’t mean it’s a dump.”
The planned improvements for the Dome include new suites at field level and in the 300 level, new ramps leading to the upper decks, expanded concourses, and retail space.
The work would be done in time for Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
