LAAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – There will now be increased patrols at the Lafayette Parish Court House after a threat was made on Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified a person of interest who they would like to speak with regarding the incident.
“You see things throughout the country on a daily basis, where threats are being made or even worse, actions are being taken against prosecutors, judges and law-enforcement officials, public workers and all kinds of different capacities. So we do take those threats very seriously,” said John Mowell, Spokesperson for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
You’ll notice more security at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse, this comes after threat was made against courthouse personnel on Wednesday. Investigator say the subject targeted the District Attorneys Office and Judicial Staff. The threat force the evacuation of the 7-floor building.
“We’re definitely asking for the public’s assistance in helping us identify the individual, so that we can make contact with him and question him about some of the issues yesterday (Wednesday),” Mowell said.
Investigator say someone in the courthouse received a text about an explosive inside the building. Officials now will be extra vigilant when scanning people at all the entrances before they get into the building. People we spoke to say they’re glad to see the increase in security.
This young generation, just has no respect for the law. I think it’s a good thing,” said Raymond Piazza.
“So much things happening in the world today, you don’t know who to trust no more. It’s hard to trust people these days, and every time you look something happens,” said Sable Leopaul.
“Totally secure in the courthouse from walking into the doors, into the court room, and then from walking out. Completely safe with protection from everything else,” said Katelyn Aughey.
