After four years, there will be a new name on the door of the Baldwin mayor’s office.

Baldwin mayor Donna Lanceslin has withdrawn from the upcoming election.

Lanceslin qualified for the mayor’s race with only minutes to spare on Friday, the last day to qualify.

This after she told loved ones she was not running and planning to hang up her gavel.

“I didn’t tell my family that I was going back and qualify but I did it and said, well, it’s okay they’ll get over it”, the mayor said.

With intentions of retiring, spending more time with her six grandchildren, and watching sporting events at her college alma mater, an intense town hall meeting on Monday finalized her decision to withdraw.

Lanceslin said, “After listening to the meeting and hearing some things that were negative toward what I was doing or what I had not done it made me realize I do believe it is time for you (me) to leave.”

With her mind made up, the mayor says she is proud to have served the town in more ways than just the mayor. Even doing wellness checks on the elderly and shut in.

She leaves these words for the incoming political leader of the town:

“I would really like for him to stay focused and do those things necessary to help Baldwin grow.”

As Mayor Lanceslin is no longer a candidate, Democrat Abel “Phil” Prejean, the only other candidate for mayor take office unopposed.
