Scammers are targeting consumers with robocalls about social security.

The callers claim to be from the social security administration.

The callers will tell you that something is wrong with your social security number.

The scammers claim this is the final attempt to contact you and if you don’t call the number back — they will cancel or put a hold on your social security number.

Here are some tips you can use to protect yourself from scams like this one.
    – don’t share your information.
    – don’t trust your caller ID.  Many scammers use “fake” e-mails and phone numbers to make you trust them.
    – know who does call.
government agencies do not call unsolicited.
    – and verify phone numbers.

The Better Business Bureau says this is just the latest version of a government imposter scam that is occurring in Acadiana.
