ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY)– Jubilee of the World will be reading the Bible, cover to cover, without pause for 86-hours, publicly in the St. Martinville Town Square

According to the church, the event is being held to close off the Jubilee year of mercy.

The reading will take place in the Town Square of St. Martinville and will conclude on Christ the King.

Beginning on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 a.m. and ending Nov. 20, at 8 p.m., over 200 lectors from the Diocese of Lafayette joined by members of other faith communities will read for 20-minute intervals.

A news release stated that the celebration will bring together Catholics, Baptists, Non-Denominational Christians, and members of the Jewish Faith.

“People everywhere love to exercise. It’s important to stay in physical shape, which is why many participate in Iron Man races, triathlons, and marathons. And we wanted to provide a way for people to spiritually exercise!,” says Fr. Michael Champagne, director of Fete-Dieu du Teche, LLC.. “We, as Catholics, are getting ready to close out the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, and we wanted to do something to commemorate the closing of the floodgate of mercy and grace in an extraordinary way. Every page of the Sacred Scriptures recounts God’s burning and fatherly love for us, and this will be a reminder of that love.”

According to a spokesperson, Lectors from parishes throughout the diocese and others interested in reading are encouraged to sign up for a reading slot during the Marathon.

The event encourages anyone to come to listen and “marinate” in the Word.
