Bird scooters made their landing in the Hub City earlier this weekend, and people have already flocked to the newest riding trend.
While the scooters have been seen mostly in Downtown Lafayette, they’ve already started making their way to UL Lafayette grounds. News 10 reporter Rebeca Marroquin spoke to some college students about what they think.
Morgan Munzing says, “I have some friends here without a car that are kind of confined to campus, so I think the mobility will be really good for them.”
But with the excitement also comes concern. Harrold Philippi explains, “Those scooters are going to get banned from U.L. real quick. I’m telling you, somebody’s going to hit somebody and it’s going to be a whole ordeal, I bet.”
And some Lafayette residents have even taken to social media to express that concern. One person saying in part, “I just saw three 15-year-old kids zooming down St. Mary in traffic.” Another responding, “Saw a near-accident at an intersection yesterday. Totally ‘Bird’ rider’s fault. Car driver saved a serious injury from happening.”
