LAFAYETTE, La. (Daily Advertiser) Boise State had its way with UL on Saturday, rolling to a 45-10 victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns in the non-conference season opener for both teams at Cajun Field.

The Mountain West’s Broncos picked apart the UL secondary and jumped to a 35-0 lead before a Stevie Artigue field goal made it 35-3 going into halftime.

Just more than three minutes in, the Broncos went up 7-0 behind a 1-yard Jeremy McNicholls run set up by Brett Rypien’s 43-yard pass to Thomas Sperbeck.

Less than four minutes later, Rypien hit Cedrick Wilson with a 42-yard touchdown strike.

Up 14-0 after one quarter, Boise State extended its lead in the first minute of the second quarter when Sperbeck — throwing off a lateral on a four-play drive — found McNichols for a 48-yard score.

UL went for it on fourth-and-1 on its own 38, but lost a yard on a completion to tight end Nick Byrne, giving Boise State the ball back yet again.

This time the Broncos needed only two plays before scoring, with Rypien completing a 30-yard pass over the middle to McNichols and McNichols running in from 7 yards out.

With 1:29 left in the first half, after an exchange of missed field goals, Rypien’s 35-yard screen pass to Sperbeck and Tyler Rousa’s fifth straight PAT made it 35-0 Boise State.

After missing from 44 yards, Artigue converted from 44 as time in the first half expired.

A 30-yard field goal from Rousa put the Broncos up 38-3 with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

UL’s first touchdown of 2016 came with 12:53 left, when Anthony Jennings threw an 11-yard pass to Keenan Barnes.

Alexander Mattison added a late 2-yard TD run for Boise State with just under nine minutes left as Broncos rolled up more than 500 yards in total offense on the Cajuns
