After school kids are hungry, but the students who go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana have snacks waiting for them after school. Across the five clubs they’ve served over 100,000 meals this year.

When Leon Peralla gets off of school, he gets to helping at the Boys and Girls club. When I come here after school, Brian our staff member, who is pretty nice, lets me help out. I pick up the trays of food back here,” says Peralla.

All studnets are welcome to a healthy snack when they get to the club. “We really saw a need in the afterschool hours right when the bell rings at 3 o’clock, that a lot of children don’t really have a healthy meal to go home to,” says Emily Chatelain. She’s part of a nonprofit organization the Three O’clock Project which donate meals to the five clubs across Acadiana.

For Leon volunteering to help with the snacks is more than just passing out food. He says, “It’s very helpful to our community so that’s what I want to do try to help our community out.”
