ACADIA Parish, La. (KLFY)-Emergency responders put out an explosion caused by lightning striking a tank battery between Midland and Mermentau Wednesday morning.
“We got an initial call that I received from our 911 office was just after 8:00 this morning that we had a tank battery that had been struck by lightning and had a fire going on potentially due to an explosion,” Ashley LeBlanc with the Acadia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said.
Officials said the tank battery fire was put out by first responders around 9:45a.m.
There was four tanks on site. Two were oil. Two were used for salt water.
“All four of them had just residual in them so from what it looks like the two oil tanks when the lightning struck, basically exploded, went up into the air, and the two water tanks basically sat there. They were all fiberglass,” LeBlanc said. “The fiberglass is most of what was burning, but we did get everything under control at this point.”

According to officials, the tank battery is owned and operated by Jennings Holdings, a Louisiana oil and gas producer.
”The tank battery was what they call shut in so it had been emptied out. There was just residual left in the oil tanks,” added LeBlanc.
