BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY) – Each year hundreds flock to the streets of downtown Breaux Bridge to say hello to Santa Clause and kick off the Christmas season.

Lights, ribbons, and bows covered the streets of Breaux Bridge as residents greeted Ole Saint Nick.

The Breaux Bridge Community Christmas Celebration has been bringing smiles to children’s faces for the last eight years.

“This really brings me back to my childhood. We used to do stuff like this all the time so being able to do this is special,” said Shay Moreau.

This year is Shay Moreau’s first Christmas as a mother so she was eager to attend the celebration with her son, Henery. This year is his first Christmas.

Moreau said she hopes to make this a family tradition for her and her son.

“I hope that this becomes a tradition. I mean this is awesome and Breaux Bridge is such a cute little town.”

Naricka Alex and her youngers siblings attended the Christmas celebration for the first time this year.

She said it’s a great family event.

“It was nice to come out with the kids and everything, and let them see the lights and stuff, and they were excited to come see Santa.”

With free hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas carols filling the air, the children couldn’t get enough.

“It was very fun to see Santa come up and it was fun to see all the little kids come and have the time of their life seeing Santa,” said Naricka’s younger brother.

The holiday festivities will continue this weekend with the Breaux Bridge Christmas parade this Sunday at 2 p.m.
