Three bridges remain closed in Saint Martin Parish until officials can bring them up to code. In a bridge inspection report from the DOTD, several deficiencies are listed; from pins being exposed, multiple cracks, even what’s known as “loss of section” which leaves behind only inches of the original support.
Closure to repair these bridges, even for only a short period of time, causes an inconvenience to residents says Saint Martin Parish President Guy Cormier.
“For the most part of the ten bridges that were closed we had seven of them that people had a good alternate routes and like the bridge behind me it wasn’t a big inconvenience for folks but it was an inconvenience” says Saint Martin Parish President Guy Cormier.
Cormier says all the repairs are being funded by the 2002 sales tax that is dedicated to roads and bridges in Saint Martin Parish.
