BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)— A Broussard man has been arrested after allegedly firing a revolver into a group of people.
Authorities with the Broussard Police Department tell KLFY News 10, that on Tuesday May 17, 2016, at around 10:22 p.m. police were dispatched to the Shop Rite located at 4108 US Hwy 90 in reference to a report of a gunshot being fired.
A Spokesperson for the Broussard PD says upon the officer’s arrival it was discovered that a verbal fight took place which resulted in the shooting of one shot at a group who was involved in the altercation.
Police believe James Linton, 52 of Broussard was the gunman.
Authorities tell News 10 Linton was arguing with another individual, Police say Linton then reached into his vehicle and grabbed a revolver out of a bag and aimed it at the individual. The individual then ran towards others when Linton shot one time, towards the group.
Police say, after firing a round, Linton then entered his vehicle and fled the scene.
No one was injured in the incident.
Linton’s vehicle was found in the City of Lafayette at a residence where Lafayette Police attempted to locate him and make an arrest on warrants. However, Linton was not found at the residence.
Police say the suspect later turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office.
Linton was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with a preliminary charge of with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a firearm & possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
