A Broussard woman was booked with cruelty to juvenile charges after allegedly beating her 10-year-old child a belt, Broussard Police said.
Leah Rochon was arrested over the weekend after hospital officials determined that the boy sustained a number of injuries including a ruptured blood vessel to the right eyeball, and significant bruising to the arms, left thigh and facial area, Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou said.
According to Decou, Broussard Police assisted DCFS, (Department of Children and Family Services) with the investigation of an alleged child abuse case.
Decou said the investigation began after hospital personnel determined that the injuries were non-accidental trauma.
Rochon was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center Friday with no bond.
